Free Hearing Aids: Articles Selection
We have placed a combination of our own articles, and those written by guest writers about hearing aid
donating and making hearing aid donation in this section as follows:-
Why Not Make a Hearing Aid Donation?
There are not enough hearing aids produced to fit all of the hearing impaired people in the world according to
the World Health Organization. While 278 million people worldwide have some hearing impairment, only around 28
million hearing aids are produced each year. In the United States, one out of every 10 Americans are affected by
some form of hearing loss, but the costs of hearing aids are not covered by many health insurance plans. Medicare
does not cover hearing aids either. So, donating used hearing aids which can be refurbished is a way to change the
future for another hearing impaired individual.
Charity Sound Seekers, which aims to improve the lives of deaf children, has joined forces with Specsavers
hearing centres for the appeal. More than 300 hearing centres across the country will host fundraising activities
and collect unwanted hearing aids for the charity.
Collection bins for donated hearing aids are now permanently located inside all Specsavers hearing centres. It
follows the success of a similar scheme for unwanted glasses, already in place with UK charity Vision Aid Overseas
(VAO). Since 2003 a quarter of a million glasses have been collected and recycled by Specsavers optical stores for
VAO, for use in developing countries.
Special people and special occasions are worth remembering. A gift to Bristol Regional Speech and Hearing Center
is a great way to honor the person and occasion while at the same time helping to make a difference in the lives of
children and adults in our community.
If your company would like to establish a Matching Gift Program, your donation may double or even triple in
value. You may contact our Executive Director to set-up a matching gift program at (276) 669-6331.
BEGIN AGAIN is a donate source for your no longer in use hearing aids. The hearing aids will be recycled and
distributed to those whose financial means do not allow them to purchase one for him or herself. Your donation can
count as a tax write-off. More information is available at The SHOPPE.
Since 1981, The Hearing and Speech Foundation has provided ongoing hearing services to disadvantaged individuals
in East Tennessee. Most insurance companies will not pay for hearing and speech services or hearing aids. Through
the HSF Indigent Care Program, individuals have the opportunity to receive hearing aids and hearing and speech
services they would otherwise go without. In nearly three decades, HSF has given the gift of hearing to thousands
of patients in East Tennessee and beyond.
Find a hearing aid donation center by going to the Lions Club website (see Resources). Drop off your used
hearing aids at one of the collection points, located in the United States, Canada and Denmark. The Lions Club
organization runs a Hearing Aid Recycling Program (HARP). It sponsors the collection of used hearing aids, forwards
them to a manufacturer for refurbishing and then helps to distribute them to low-income hearing impaired
individuals.
